Founder's Choice tour of HGTV's Dream Home
This year our team at Founder's Choice was given the exciting privilege of touring HGTV's Dream Home located in beautiful Gig Harbor, WA!
The Dream Home was designed to be the perfect testament to the Puget Sound in all of its modern coastal charm. Minimalist white interiors, contrasting wood textures, and playful tributes to Seattle are found throughout each of the rooms in this house.
While you might not have access to a dreamy ocean view, there are plenty of other details of the Dream Home that you can bring into your own home! Walk through the design with us and learn what PNW-inspired details you can bring into your own home.
The Minimalist Coastal look
White Shaker cabinets continue the home's coastal theme into the kitchen. However they look anything but bland with their contrasting black pulls. By making use of a range of textures throughout the space, the kitchen feels like a welcoming home rather than a stark, cold room.
An example of this was the variation of cabinet finishes. While the majority of the kitchen is light and simple, a few select cabinets in the pantry and kitchen are stained a warm brown tone.
However the real show-stopper of this room is in the floor-to-ceiling backsplash. By cutting out the upper cabinets, there is ample room for the beautiful quartz stone to shine. This seamless look is achieved by extending the countertop material all the way to the ceiling, a simple way to pull together a clean space.
For your home:
If you love the look of this kitchen, then you're in luck! It's easier (and cheaper!) than ever to create a minimalist coastal theme. Opt for a white painted Shaker-style cabinet and finish them off with contrasting black pulls. When selecting a pull for your cabinetry, try to keep with a simple shape so as not to draw too much attention.
To add some interest try adding in pops of natural wood textures and natural colors like blues and greens. These can be added in to decorations, glassware, or wall mountings. If you're feeling especially daring, try mixing in some dark stained cabinetry with your white painted ones.
The Entertainer's Dream
The layout of this home is perfect for the homeowner who loves to entertain - and the kitchen was no exception. The spacious kitchen perfectly flows into the next room, leaving plenty of space for extra guests.
The kitchen's center island provides even more storage and work space. Perfectly proportioned to the rest of the kitchen, it creates a wide space for prepping meals that's still out of the way of household traffic. It even incorporates a Single Handle Pull-Down Spring Spout Kitchen Faucet with Touch2O®Technology to make clean up simple.
Beautiful and functional stainless steel appliances go the extra mile. Boasting a 6-burner pro cooktop and an industrial steel hood, this kitchen lacks nothing when it comes to cooking for a crowd.
For your home:
If you are an entertainer, you can take a note from the Dream Home. Try to make your kitchen as open as possible to make more space for you and your guests. A kitchen island is a great option that allows you to converse with your guests while you're working. Low-maintenance stainless steel appliances make it easier to clean up after your guests leave.
A Walk-In Butler's Pantry
Even though the kitchen was missing a row of upper cabinets, there was no lack of storage space. The designers made use of every corner in this kitchen to maximize space. An abundance of drawers and open shelving on the remaining base cabinets made for a perfect way to organize the kitchen.
However, the real space saver was the walk-in butler's pantry adjoining the kitchen. It more than made up for the lack of upper cabinets. If anything, it improves the work flow of the space by decluttering the kitchen of unnecessary items.
Within the pantry kitchenware is even further organized with dedicated organizers. Wine glasses, bottles, and even baking sheets have their own space while being beautifully displayed. You won't find anything crammed into corners in this kitchen!
For your home:
This pantry is the perfect example of balancing form and function. You can achieve the same organized space by adding in dedicated plate racks and wine organizers to your run of cabinets. Open shelves are also a great way to keep all of these necessities within arms-reach.
